Foxconn beats Apple, unveils a smartwatch compatible with the iPhone
Seems like Sony’s recently unveiled SmartWatch 2 SW2, isn’t the only new wearable device in the market. Hon Hai (or Foxconn), the biggest manufacturer of Apple’s iPhones and iPads has unveiled its own version of a smartwatch that can be wirelessly connected to an iPhone, WantChinaTimes reports.
The wearable device is quite simple in its functionality and in addition to time, it also displays incoming and missed phone calls, messages and Facebook updates among others. Additionally, the device also keeps track of and displays the user’s vital signs like respiration and heartbeats.
While unveiling the device Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou said, “With such a device, you can keep your phone in your pocket and simply check all kinds of messages on your watch.” He also revealed the company’s plans to introduce newer features on the watch like biometric identification in the near future. Hon Hain didn’t announce a name or release date for its new smartwatch, but given that the product was shown at the shareholder’s meeting would mean that an unveiling shouldn’t be far off.
Interestingly, Hon Hai isn’t the only company which has developed an iPhone-compatible smartwatch as Apple too is believed to be developing its own iWatch, which is expected to be revealed sometime later this year.
